Dental Implants in Ballito

Replace missing teeth with a solution designed around you
Whether you have lost a single tooth or several teeth, dental implants can provide a secure, natural-looking foundation for restoring your smile and the way you eat.
At Arch Dentistry, implant treatment begins with understanding your individual needs. We carefully assess your remaining teeth, bone and soft tissues before planning a restoration that is comfortable, functional and designed for long-term maintenance.
From digital planning and implant placement to the design and manufacture of your final restoration, every stage is coordinated within our Ballito clinic.

Replacing Missing Teeth with Dental Implants
A dental implant is a small titanium fixture placed into the jawbone to support a replacement tooth or bridge. Once the implant has integrated with the surrounding bone, it can provide a stable foundation for a restoration that looks and functions much like natural teeth.
Unlike a conventional bridge, a single implant-supported crown can replace a missing tooth without requiring the neighbouring healthy teeth to be prepared.
Dental implants can be used to:
- Replace a single missing tooth.
- Support a bridge replacing several missing teeth.
- Restore chewing function and help maintain a balanced bite.
- Provide a fixed alternative to certain removable dental restorations.
Not every missing tooth requires an implant, and not every patient requires the same treatment. We consider the available options before recommending a plan.

Replacing a Single Missing Tooth
Losing one tooth can affect more than the appearance of your smile. Depending on its position, the gap may influence chewing, neighbouring tooth movement and the balance of your bite.
A single dental implant supports an individually designed crown without relying on the adjacent teeth for support.
At Arch Dentistry, we consider the shape and position of the intended replacement tooth before planning where the implant should be placed. This is particularly important for front teeth, where the surrounding gum tissue, tooth proportions and relationship with neighbouring teeth contribute to a natural appearance.
The aim is not simply to fill the gap, but to create a restoration that fits comfortably within your existing dentition.

Replacing Several Missing Teeth
When several teeth are missing, it is not always necessary or desirable to place an implant for every tooth.
Two or more strategically positioned implants can support a fixed bridge replacing several teeth. The appropriate number of implants depends on their location, the available bone, the forces involved in chewing and the design of the intended restoration.
For example, three missing teeth may be replaced with a bridge supported by two implants. In other situations, particularly where several back teeth carry significant chewing forces, additional implant support may be appropriate.
Our planning considers the entire restoration, including how it will distribute biting forces, how the replacement teeth will emerge from the gums and how easily the bridge can be cleaned.
Every implant has a purpose. The objective is to place the appropriate number of implants in positions that support a functional, maintainable restoration.
Planning Your Implant Treatment

The right foundation begins with careful planning
Successful implant treatment involves much more than placing an implant into available bone.
At Arch Dentistry, we combine clinical examination with digital dental scans, appropriate three-dimensional CBCT imaging and computer-aided treatment planning. This allows us to evaluate the available bone, important anatomical structures, surrounding teeth and soft tissues, while considering the shape and position of the final restoration.
Where appropriate, we design and manufacture surgical guides to help transfer the digital treatment plan to the surgical procedure. Importantly, we plan the implant around the tooth we intend to restore — not the other way around.

One clinician. One coordinated treatment journey.
A defining feature of Arch Dentistry is the close integration of implant surgery and restorative dentistry.
Dr Thinus van Niekerk oversees the clinical assessment, implant and prosthetic planning, surgery and restorative design. Our in-house digital laboratory supports the manufacture of surgical guides, temporary restorations and final implant-supported crowns and bridges.
This continuity allows surgical and restorative decisions to be considered together, with direct oversight throughout treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions
Good candidates for dental implants are individuals who have one or more missing teeth and have sufficient bone density in their jaw to support the implant. Candidates should also have healthy gums and be in good overall health. A thorough evaluation is necessary to determine if dental implants are the right option for you.
Dental implants are designed to be a long-term solution and can last many years with proper care. With good oral hygiene practices and regular dental check-ups, implants can last a lifetime. The crown attached to the implant may need replacement due to normal wear and tear, but the implant post itself is very durable. Factors such as smoking, poor oral hygiene and certain medical conditions can affect the longevity of dental implants.
